Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

As you may know Lombok and the Gili Islands had recently been hit with an earthquake. They are still trying to recover from the damages caused.I have preivously been to the Gili Islands back in 2016 and arriving in 2018 after the quake. I can see the amount of damage it has caused, it was quite upsetting. Some buildings that were fully functional before and no longer even standing. Despite this the islanders are still doing there very best to carry on and they are doing a very good job of it!

In Ubud there are plently of places to book a trip to the Gili Islands and more often than not they include transfer to and from the Padang Bai (the pier). We paid 450k IDR each and that included hotel pickup from Ubud to Padang Bai and from Padang Bai to Kuta (or wherever you would like to go).

We arrvied into Gili T, it took around 2 hours to get there. We were taken back by the view, it was absolutely gorgeous!

We stayed at a homestay which we had pre-booked through Air BnB. It was £25 and we stayed there for 3 nights and that price included breakfast in the morning. I would highly recommend Casa Tropical. The host is absolutely lovely, she has all the time in the world for her customers and she can organise trips and you can hire bikes from her. Just look how cute the homestay was!

Once we got settled, we wanted to head out and explore! The host asked us where we were off and what we had planned. She took the time to get a map and explain the best parts to visit on the island and where is nice to eat. Which we thought was lovely!

We headed out and just had a nice stroll around the island. We stopped off and had something to eat and the boat ride was very tiring haha! Luckily every where you eat, you get an absolutely gorgeous view, so you cannot complain!

We decided to walk towards the other side of the island which is known for its famous sunsets. Along the beach here you will find swings in the sea, amazing picture chances especially when the sun is setting! There are quite a few to choose from!

We walked from one side of the island to the other in about half an hour. To watch the sunset you have to go to the other side of the island called ‘sunset point’. You will definitely not be disappointed by this!

So overall Gili T definitley did not disappoint. If you are thinking of going but are worried about going because of the recent earthquake. I think you should definitely go. There are more than enough boats going to and from the islands, from Lombok, Bali and even the other Gili Islands. It has lots of resturants open and the shops are all open. I would 100% recommend! I would say your visit to Gili will actually help the islanders, we are helping them get back onto their feet! They love seeing us there!

Until next time X
